We strive to worship the way all Christians are called to worship--passionately, authentically, joyfully, hopefully.

  1. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday.

  2. We blend classic hymns with more modern musical expressions of the faith.

  3. We experience a meaningful encounter with Scripture that seeks to shape and form faithful living.

  4. Each worship service includes a “Time for Young Disciples”, when the youngest Christians among us are welcomed at the front for a special message.

  5. Wear what you like, just come with an open mind and an open heart!

  6. Childcare is provided in our nursery by experienced childcare providers.

We’re About Worship

We believe:

  1. 1)That our Christian faith compels service to others that is grounded in our love for Christ and Christ’s love for all people.

  2. 2)That we must reach out to our community and the world around us.

In order to live out these beliefs, we:

  1. Are a member congregation and legacy partner of ALIVE!  The ALIVE! Child Development Center and a portion of its food distribution program for families in need have been housed in our building for over 20 years.

  2. Send volunteers each year to the Appalachia Service Project, a home repair ministry that seeks to make homes warmer, safer and drier in one of the most impoverished areas of our country.

  3. Partner with United Community Ministries for their Back To School Backpack project and Holiday Gift program, as well as other projects throughout the year.

  4. Volunteer monthly with Meals on Wheels, Carpenter’s Shelter, and numerous other community service programs.

Belonging to a Christian community carries with it deep connections and important relationships that can be formed among people who share a common identity as followers of Jesus and make a powerful difference in your life:

  1. We have Fellowship Time in our Fellowship Hall following worship each Sunday.

  2. Koinonia Adults (koy-no-nee-uh) is a fellowship group at FCC for all ages.  From outings to the many attractions in the DC area to simple and fun events at FCC, Koinonia provides an opportunity for church members to build deeper friendships with one another.

  3. Koinonia Kids includes occasional events geared specifically to our children--these include movies, game nights and trips to kid-friendly places in DC and Northern Virginia.

Growing as a disciple of Jesus requires a lifelong commitment to learning and exploration.  At FCC Alexandria, we seek to provide these opportunities for all ages:

  1. Children’s Program: We use a rotational model that allows the children to explore a bible story with lessons that employ art, cooking, music, storytelling, games, and science as teaching tools.

  2. Bible Study: both evening and daytime educational sessions.  These run in a four or six week series and use a variety of resources that allow us to explore how we might be more faithful followers of Jesus.

  3. Serious Thinkers Sunday School Class: The Serious Thinkers are a class of mentally handicapped adults who meet every other week at FCC for learning, singing and fellowship.

First Christian Church is now in its 80th year of faithful service and witness to the Alexandria community.  We are striving to serve God faithfully and respond to the call of Jesus Christ through worship, service, education and fellowship.  We also seek to be an open minded, open-hearted community that is inclusive of all races, nationalities and lifestyles.  At First Christian Church, you will find persons from all walks of life working side by side, drawn together by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, who makes us one.  You are not only invited to learn more about us in this space, but also to join us for Sunday worship or one of our other programs.  We’re an open Christian community, and we are committed to making you feel welcome among us.
